I played in a band from 1993-1998 called Last Lemming. Some of the best days of my life. Here are a few pictures and reviews.

Last Lemming Reviews

BUFFALO NEWS 1997

...There's something to be said about a band so eclectic it has played the jazzy Calumet Arts Cafe and the brooding Continental in the same weekend.  In the case of Last Lemming, these five musicians have the ability to creatively mold their music to fit their surroundings...

Last Lemming was formed in 1993 as a studio project by longtime musical collaborators Garbaz and bassist Don Freeman.  The outing became a full band in 1995 with the addition of Damien Simon, Eric Crittenden's soothing saxophones and keyboards, and percussionist Mike Dennehy.

The nine songs on "Lemmus Lemmus" are filled with catchy, rhythmic music and dark lyrics mostly taken from poems written by Garbaz and his friend Tom Kosmider.

This weekend they are off for a return trip to the Nightengale Bar (Spin Doctors) in Manhattan, a trip Garbaz says is a big step for the group. "We played there last November. Once you play there, they have to like you to ask you back. Manhattan is a tough place to play. It's the real deal."

INSIDER MAGAZINE 1997

...I popped this disc in my player, sat back and took a ride into never land. Smooth, jazzy pop, very layered musical arrangements. I'm going to make some Pink Floyd comparisons here. Some bands with auxiliary horns do so to just sound different, but here it fits. Eric Crittenden knows how to play his horn and more importantly, when not to...

More dreamy stuff and well done introspective lyrics. I can relate and understand. Jeff Garbaz has a soothing voice that fits in perfectly. The production is top notch and I can hear the vocals... you owe it to yourself to pick this one up...

FLAVIR MAGAZINE 1997

... Great stuff: mellow music, depressing lyrics, the kind of sleepy time sounds that bring interesting dreams if you let them tuck you in at night.  Lemmus Lemmus is a disc that couldn't of come to me at a better time... The music is smooth, it grooves. there's lots of horns slipping in and out of the background, plenty of synthesized mood swings, and Jeff Garbaz's voice reminds me for all the world of Morrisey. What's not to like?

LIFE GIVES US LEMMINGS

After a long day, there's nothing like unwinding with the recent CD by Buffalo rockers the Last Lemming's "Lemmus Lemmus" (Lemmus is the latin term for the lemming family!) Our favorite track: "Darkness." Bandleader Jeff Garbaz croons: "Sometimes it feels/Like dropping downward/The sensation of doom/Looms 'round your head/Sometimes it feels/like the world that surrounds you/Ain't worth pickin yourself out of bed." Who knows? Maybe 50 years from now, there'll be another Micheal Civisca, and he'll be singing that.

NIGHTLIFE MAGAZINE 1997

...The sound that evolves out of this crew is in a class by itself. Each song is different from the last but each has an ability to catch your ears and hold on to your emotions. They seem to have a way of collaborating a variety of music styles into a distinct original sound...Their lyrics are moving, relating to the many facets of reality without the hard to avoid problem of cliché. I read the lyrics they brought on that frog in your throat that happens when a song strongly touches you inside. Jeff explains the many of the lyrics evolved out of a poetry collection he and a friend have been writing...They return to New York City in June and be sure to keep your ears peeled for them atNietzsche's some time this month. You can buy the CD at the show so it will be well worth it...
